For over 50 years, Ron Menaker and Linda Mansfield have dedicated their time, resources, and energy to supporting United Way. Their involvement as volunteers, donors, and committee members spans across the country, but for the past 20 years, they’ve focused much of their efforts with the United Way of Olmsted County.

Coming Together to Make an Impact

Ron and Linda’s journey with United Way has been a constant thread in their lives, shaped by a deep belief in the power of community.

Linda got involved first. Ron, influenced by his wife’s volunteerism and community service, soon followed in her footsteps. "We've benefited from others helping us, so we also want to help others," Ron said.

For Ron and Linda, United Way's true strength lies in its ability to unite people from all walks of life, embracing collaboration across different sectors and backgrounds. They are inspired by the organization's unique role in connecting individuals, organizations, and corporations to address complex community issues.

"When we're supporting United Way, we're supporting the whole community," Linda shared. "We trust United Way to understand the whole community needs."

Giving Where It Counts

The couple also finds value in United Way’s local expertise. They recognize that there are great disparities in our community, and by giving to United Way, they hope to lessen some of the disparity and make a larger impact. At the same time, they admit that "they don't know, what they don't know," so they rely on United Way to bring awareness of issues and nonprofits that are important in our community.

Their dedication to United Way has driven Linda and Ron to become part of United Way's Tocqueville Society, a group of donors who give more than $10,000 annually to support local health, education, and financial stability. They are also sponsoring a Gala Table for our Centennial Gala in 2025, a celebration of 100 years of impact in Olmsted County.

Though United Way holds a special place in their hearts, Ron and Linda support a variety of organizations and initiatives each year.

The Personal Rewards of Service

Ron and Linda’s devotion to United Way and their community has not only benefited those they aim to serve—it has also profoundly impacted their own lives. They truly care about the people in their community and want to get outside of their comfort zone and make a difference, whether that's by giving money, volunteering, or mobilizing influence.

Through their continued commitment, they’ve gained a deeper understanding of the needs around them and have built stronger connections within their community.

"We have gained more by giving than the amount we have given,” they reflected.
